MATCH REPORT

In late september conditions – some sun but more cloud and a chilly wind – the Mariners assembled at Hambledon. Bizarrely early. When things did get going the homeside batted first in a 30 overs match. The Hambledon openers made hay – putting on 128 for the first wicket, one opener getting 55 and the other retiring out upon reaching a 100. In batsman friendly conditions Hambledon finished on 202 from their 30 overs.

Gumps and a returning to the fold Tim Goldman took opened up for the Mariners setting about the hosts total. Steady progress was made with both batsmen clattering boundaries on their way to 58 and 45 respectively; but it was the arrival Robin that accelerated the scoring – taking advantage of a short legside boundary the left hander scored four 6s and twelve 4’s before being caught on 84. The damage was done as the Mariners cruised to victory with 3 overs to spare.
